University of Wisconsin–Madison

Our Services

The Wisconsin National Primate Research Center provides comprehensive scientific, veterinary, and research support services that advance high-impact biomedical discovery while ensuring the highest standards of animal care and welfare. From colony management, veterinary medicine, behavioral support, pathology, and regulatory compliance to specialized research services in genomics, immunology, virology, assay development, and biological materials distribution, our expert teams partner with investigators at every stage of the research process—from study design and protocol development through data collection, analysis, and publication.

Research

Assay Services

Assay Services provides investigators with modern, efficient and cost-effective endocrine and biomarker measurements in a centralized facility.

Immunology Services

The Immunology Services Unit offers comprehensive support for pre-clinical studies at the WNPRC. We provide expert consultation on study design, prepare all biosafety and animal use protocols, and assemble nonhuman primate cohorts tailored to your research needs.

Virology Services

The WNPRC Virology Services Unit provides support to investigators performing virological research in nonhuman primates. Our services include highly sensitive molecular diagnostics, production and titration of virus stocks suitable for in-vitro and/or in-vivo studies, generation of custom virus mutants by reverse genetics, virus isolation and more

Genomics Services

Genomics Services provides high-throughput MHC genotyping for investigators using nonhuman primates to study cellular immunity and transplantation tolerance.

Animal Services

Veterinary Services

Veterinary Services provide the medical and technical coverage to meet the needs of the animals and researchers at the Primate Center.

Scientific Protocol Implementation

The Scientific Protocol Implementation (SPI) unit provides research support and collaboration for NHP investigator projects that utilize WNPRC resources.

Pathology Services & Nonhuman Primate Biological Materials Distribution Core (NHPBMD)

The Pathology Services Unit provides comprehensive diagnostic, pathology, and tissue banking services. The unit collaborates closely with veterinary staff and investigators to diagnose and monitor animal health, interpret research findings, support study design, and provide access to an extensive repository of biological samples and tissues.

Compliance, Records, Safety and Training

The Compliance, Records, Safety and Training Unit consists of four collaborative components that create a center-wide atmosphere of safety and compliance.

Behavioral Services

The Behavioral Services Unit promotes animal welfare and facilitates research by providing state-of-the-art behavioral management of the three species of nonhuman primates housed at WNPRC.

Colony Services

Colony Services shares responsibilities with Veterinary Services for animal husbandry, colony records, quality assurance, animal assignments, and procurement and transportation of animals.
